Hi,
Those of you familiar with Calgary and the surrounding area probably know of the big hill coming east out of Cochrane towards Calgary. For those that don't, its about a 3km long steady climb with a max grade of about 10%. Here's a great graphic that describes the hill:Anyway, I thought it would be fun to see how well (or how poorly) my bus could climb. Starting from a dead stop at the bottom and accelerating normally I can hold 70kph (speed limit is 80) with the pedal to the floor in third gear. To you long time bus owners & drivers, how does that sound? Normal? How would you climb this hill? i.e., what gear & speed? I know these buses are slow but I often think that mine should be a bit better at climbing than it is. We do quite a bit of camping in the mountains and there's one hill that I need to downshift to 2nd for. Perhaps I'm worrying about nothing but I thought I'd check with the gurus here.
P
Thanks!
