I am trying to get in shape to summit Mount Adams, and lose 13 lbs in the process.

My question is; when I hike something steep, like Mount Si. My thighs are a bit sore, and I am very tired the next day.

Should I go with it & rest, or should I push myself the next day?  I just feel like I have no motivation after a "hard" hike. Is that pretty normal, or am I just getting old?

Rest this is normal unless your a professional climber, they even recharge, with the exception of a short walk (not more than 20 min) and 10-15 minutes of stretching.  This also includes charging up mentally.  I always like to indulge in some junk food after a hard hike or climb, but try and watch the calories.  I estimate a Mt. Si Climb at burning 2500-3000 calories so a 400 calorie burger is fine as a reward.
